Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients:

  • For the Meatballs:
    • 500 grams ground beef
    • 250 grams ground pork
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1 egg
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
    • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
  • For the Lingonberry Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup lingonberry jam
    • 1/4 cup water
  • For the Gravy:
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 2 cups beef broth
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Make the Meatballs:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and allspice.
    • Mix well and form into small meatballs.
    • In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat.
    • Fry the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  2. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt the butter and whisk in the flour.
    • Cook for a minute, then slowly add the beef broth while whisking.
    • Stir in the heavy cream and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Make the Lingonberry Sauce:
    • In a small saucepan, combine the lingonberry jam and water.
    • Heat over low heat until warmed through.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the meatballs with gravy and lingonberry sauce on the side.
