Terms of use
Conditions for using SmartHome-AI, the educational nature of the content, warnings about electrical work and home automation, liability, links and advertising.
These terms apply to smarthome-ai.com, maintained by Álvaro Menezes (contact: [email protected]). By browsing the site you agree to the conditions below. If you do not agree, please do not use the content.
1. What this site is#
SmartHome-AI publishes independent, educational guides about smart homes: Home Assistant, ESPHome and ESP32, Zigbee, Thread and Matter, Apple HomeKit, home networks, home servers and AI assistants. The content is written for beginners and enthusiasts, based on official documentation, the author's own tests and hands-on experience. It does not replace manufacturer documentation, technical standards or the assessment of a qualified professional.
The site does not sell products, does not provide installation or support services and is not affiliated with Nabu Casa, Home Assistant, Apple, Amazon, Google, Philips, Sonoff, Tuya or any other brand mentioned. Names and logos belong to their owners and appear only to identify products.
2. Electrical work, hardware and firmware#
Some guides describe procedures that carry real risk when done incorrectly:
- Mains electricity. Switches, sockets, relays and in-wall modules connect to 110–240 V mains. Electrical installation, replacement and repair must be carried out by a qualified electrician, with power disconnected at the breaker and in accordance with your local electrical code and regulations. Electric shock, short circuits and fire are possible consequences of a wrong connection or an uncertified product.
- Hardware and firmware. Flashing firmware (ESPHome, Tasmota, WLED, Zigbee2MQTT, OpenThread), replacing a Zigbee coordinator, opening devices or changing their settings may void the warranty, brick the device or cause unexpected behaviour. Do it at your own risk, with a backup first, following the project's official documentation.
- Automations. Automations that operate locks, gates, heaters, pumps, irrigation, appliances or any load capable of causing damage must have independent safeguards (thermostats, timers, physical limits) and must never be the only safety mechanism protecting people, animals or property.
- Internet exposure. Exposing Home Assistant, cameras, servers or dashboards to the internet without strong authentication, HTTPS and regular updates may allow unauthorised access to your home. The guides describe recommended practices, but the security of your network is your responsibility.
Before following any procedure, read it in full, check that it applies to your equipment, software versions and region, and stop if anything does not match the description.
3. No warranties#
The content is provided "as is", without warranty of accuracy, currency, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. Software, firmware, prices, product availability and interfaces change often; the publication and update dates are shown on every guide. Published YAML, commands and configurations are examples: test them in a controlled environment before using them in production.
4. Limitation of liability#
To the extent permitted by law, the author and SmartHome-AI are not liable for direct or indirect damages — including damage to equipment, data loss, financial loss, injury or service interruption — arising from the use or inability to use the content, from procedures you carry out yourself, or from third-party products and services mentioned here. The decision to carry out any procedure, and how to do it, is yours alone.
5. Links, prices and third-party sites#
The site links to manufacturers, shops, open-source projects, videos and social networks. Those destinations have their own policies, terms and prices, over which SmartHome-AI has no control. Prices and subscription fees quoted in the guides are references as of the publication date, usually converted or rounded, and may have changed.
6. Advertising#
The site includes Google AdSense integration. Ads are selected and served by Google and its partners, not by the author, and are not recommendations of products or services. Advertising does not influence topics, reviews or editorial recommendations. Advertising cookies and your control options are described in the Privacy policy.
7. Intellectual property and use of content#
The texts, original illustrations and the author's photographs are © SmartHome-AI. You may quote short excerpts with a link to the source page. Full reproduction, translation or republication of the guides — including by automated systems — requires prior permission. The site generator's code is published on GitHub under the MIT licence, which does not extend to the texts, images or third-party screenshots credited on each page.
8. Acceptable use#
Do not use the site to attempt to compromise its availability or security, to collect data in an automated way at a volume that harms the service, or to present the content as your own.
9. Privacy#
The processing of browsing data, traffic metrics and advertising cookies is described in the Privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
10. Changes, governing law and contact#
These terms may be updated when the site or the services it uses change; the current version is the one published on this page, with the date below. Brazilian law applies. Questions about these terms can be sent through the channels on the Contact page.
